Overview:

Hamilton Grace Mandarin Alliance Church (HGMAC) is a Christ-centered, Bible-based church that identifies with the rich spiritual tradition of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada. Located in the culturally diverse city of Hamilton, Ontario, our congregation is primarily Mandarin-speaking, with members coming from various Chinese cultural backgrounds.

We are a growing community united in worship, discipleship, and mission. While our roots are in the Mandarin-speaking community, we are now actively developing and investing in an English-speaking congregation, especially to reach and disciple second-generation believers and seekers.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The English Pastor provides spiritual leadership and pastoral care to the English-speaking congregation. Our English Ministry is currently predominantly composed of second-generation English-speaking youth (typically grades 7-12). Looking ahead, the ministry aims to grow toward serving English-speaking youth, young adults, and families from multicultural backgrounds. The pastor will shepherd the congregation through preaching, teaching, discipleship, and outreach, with a particular emphasis on engaging and retaining the youth and fostering effective communication with their parents. The pastor is also responsible for building and equipping a team to serve the English ministry effectively.

Qualification

• A clear calling to pastoral ministry with a heart for the English-speaking youth
• Accredited or willing to be accredited with The Alliance Canada
• Experience leading Christian ministries (e.g., preaching, discipleship, worship, youth ministry)
• Agreement with the church’s statement of faith and mission
• Ability to work well in a collaborative pastoral and leadership team
• Seminary degree from an accredited institution
• Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills
• Successful completion of a criminal background check

Essential Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Elders, the Pastors and other church leaders to plan and oversee regular worship services, fellowship gatherings, and outreach activities for the English congregation. And align English ministry with the church’s overall mission.
• Providing pastoral care, prayer, and counseling as needed.
• Develop and lead weekly English services, Bible studies, and small groups, preach and teach biblically sound messages that connect to the English-speaking congregation.
• Understand the unique needs and challenges of youth and young adults, and develop programs and initiatives that attract, engage, and disciple them.
• Recruit, train, and lead a team of staff and volunteers to serve in various aspects of the English ministry (e.g., worship, discipleship, youth, outreach).
• Proactively connect with other churches both from local and other cities to identify and invite second-generation university and college students who study in Hamilton to join the English ministry and grow in faith and fellowship.
• Capacity to bring valuable guest speakers with diverse perspectives for events and talks.
• Possess a vision to develop ministries for multicultural, English-speaking youth, young adults, and families, and be able to work collaboratively with the Board of Elders, pastors, and ministers to strategically expand the reach and depth of the English Ministry.
