In July 2026, The Alliance Canada, through our partnership with Canadian Foodgrains Bank, participated in the Humanitarian Coalition’s joint appeal for those affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela.
The Humanitarian Coalition petitioned Global Affairs Canada to provide matching funds, and the emergency appeal ran from June 26 to July 14. During the appeal, Canadians responded generously, donating just over $3 million. The Government of Canada increased its matching contribution to $7 million, bringing Global Affairs Canada’s total contribution to the Venezuelan earthquake response to $12 million.
The Alliance Canada family also responded generously, contributing just over $140,000 to our Global Emergency Response Fund. These funds supported our emergency response and partnership with FundAlfa Venezuela, the relief and development arm of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Venezuela. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone across our Alliance church family who participated!
In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, the FundAlfa team was able to quickly mobilize to respond to the needs throughout the summer in two phases.
Phase One: Immediate Needs
- hygiene kits and shelter needs for those displaced
- potable water
- food baskets, including infant formula
- hot meals coordinated through a church kitchen
- solar lamps
In the wake of the earthquakes, thousands of people were left without homes, and many were grieving the loss of loved ones. Through the prayers and generous support of our Alliance family, the Venezuelan Alliance Church was able to come alongside those who were hurting—providing practical help while also offering emotional and spiritual care, hope, and the love of Christ.
Phase Two: Expanding Support
As donations continued through July, we were able to partner in the second phase of the response; which was heavily concentrated on three essential pillars:
- Medicines and Health
- Food, Hydration, and Infant Supplies (diapers, infant formula, Pedialyte)
- Shelter, Hygiene, and Clothing Supplies
Food assistance remained a vital part of the response, with community kitchens and emergency dining centres continuing to serve hot meals in the critical areas. Alongside the distribution of food, potable water, and other basic necessities, the second phase placed a stronger emphasis on medical care.
The original budget included funds for basic medicines and rapid-care supplies; however, at just the right time, another agency provided a container filled with donated medical supplies. This timely gift allowed the FundAlfa team to redirect resources toward an urgent and growing need: providing prosthetics for people who lost limbs in the earthquake. In the face of this need, we join the Venezuelan church in praying for wisdom and strength for the doctors and all those facing difficult medical decisions—and for God’s grace to bring comfort, healing, and hope to every wounded life.
Throughout the summer, as teams and churches distributed essential supplies, served hot meals, and shared the love of Christ with those around them, a heartfelt prayer of worship rose from their midst:
Lord and Savior,
We lift up every affected family, and we place them in Your hands.
Lord, with Your powerful hand and grace, cover each wound.
What the quake tried to destroy, restore Lord with your glory.
Lord have mercy on Venezuela. Cover her pain with your power.
Protect those in ruins. Guide those that run to help.
May Your glory be seen in the midst of the pain.
May those who lost everything encounter refuge in Your love.
Lord, we call on Your name.
Would you join with the Venezuelan Alliance church in their prayer for mercy and grace—and that through their unity in Christ, a powerful testimony of God’s love will shine forth around them as they serve.
