Hi Alliance Family. In a past video I said that I want to over communicate about Assembly, so let’s go—
Assembly starts on June 8th with the International Worker night. Registration will be open on the 8th in the afternoon and the IW dessert night is included in your registration. So Come and celebrate missions—to be clear, because we have sometimes miscommunicated in the past, this is not only for International Workers, This is for all of us who can come early to come and hear stories about what God is doing all around the world.
June 9—we’re having a Student Rally as one of our main plenary sessions. Again, just like the International Worker night, it isn't only for students— It’s for everybody. Delegates, students and the general public. Just like Paul says in 1 Corinthians we’re a body made up of many parts and as we spend time together, we learn from one another and we sharpen one another.
If we’re serious about raising up the next generation, we want to make space for them and give them permission to teach and influence us. Jason Ballard from The Way Church Vancouver will be speaking and he was one of the people who helped develop the very first Alpha Youth curriculum. He’ll be sharing on our theme of Multiplying disciples everywhere, and there will be an opportunity, for all of us, to respond to Christ’s calling and conviction.
During that first plenary session, we’ll also be having David Thomas from Asbury University as a guest and he will be sharing with us as part of one of our evening services as well—David was an advisor to the students who were part of the Asbury outpouring and we’ll have time to hear more about all that happened there and also now, what has been an impact of those unique days post that time.
The second evening, Shaila Visser—the National Director of Alpha Canada—will be back with us sharing about evangelism. I know that for some people, even using that word, “Evangelism” makes them immediately uncomfortable. But at the last Assembly, she told us stories about how 53% of Gen Z admit to having unanswered questions about faith. And I want to pause because of how significant that is. Let me rephrase that: The majority of Gen Z have questions about faith, and they’re looking for an answer. They have questions—and that’s so significant!
I can’t wait to talk more about how we fan the fire of curiosity in the Next Gen and not quench it…. But this is more than just about the nextgen, This is about all of us experiencing renewed passion and commitment to the proclamation, in both word and deed of the Good News of Jesus Christ. And so we’re going to continue that conversation from 2024.
Now after that, the next night, Terry Sanderson from Bayview Glen will be preaching at our final plenary session—and his broad theme will be about being all in for Jesus and his mission to reconcile the whole world to himself. At some point during Assembly, we’ll be voting for the next term of the president, so... that’s kind of important too.
We’ll be talking about missions and training 3000 pastors, New Ventures and increasing our planting efforts, the next generation, sending 10,000 people to experience our work overseas. We have exciting statistics on the Canadian church that we want to share with you. There are so many stories about what God is doing throughout our movement. Truthfully, I feel super behind on a lot of the logistics, there is so much to do. But I can’t wait to be with you. Registration is live, you can follow the link below this video to sign up. There’s some early bird pricing, so take advantage of that.
The next thing that I want to invite you to is prayer—If you’re a pastor or someone who might be able to encourage a pastor at your church, an elder, would you invite your church to join with us in a 40 days of prayer beginning April 12. There’s going to be videos from students who will be praying and leading us through this daily devotional content.
Now, this month, to close, we have a video story from some international workers who many of you know and love, Don and Betty—we filmed this one actually quite a while ago, but we couldn’t release it until very recently. So I’m thrilled to be able to share it with you here, now.
I love how they emphasize the power of hospitality. And how it unlocked amazing opportunities to join God and what he is already doing in people’s lives. God loves using our simple offerings of availability to Him... and as they shared, this is at our very core, isn’t it? That we are a movement of simple people, filled by a supernatural God, who empowers us to be a movement, making disciples everywhere.
So my prayer is, Lord, with this not just continue to be true of us, but would you bring increase for the sake of your name and your fame here in Canada and around the world? Amen? I love our church family. Have a great month, everybody. Know that I’m praying for you. And if there any way that I can serve you, in any type of way, please just let me know. Talk to you soon.
